When you’re searching for a top resort in Maui you figure if it’s good enough for Brittany Spears, Ashley Simpson and Luke and Owen Wilson you probably can’t go wrong staying at this celebrity favorite! I know this because…
for the final few days of my pure pampering TRAVEL THERAPY adventure in Maui I leave the Four Seasons ( see last post) and move next door to the gracious Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, where my deluxe ocean front suite offers one of the most stunning sunset views in all of Wailea. Celebs love this resort because they can hide away in private villas right by the beach. The only all-suite hotel in Wailea, the Kea Lani makes everyone feel like a superstar with each suite having a compact refrigerator and microwave, perfect for snacks.
If you want that ultimate seclusion that Hollywood A-listers crave opt for one of the private oceanfront villa. There are 37 beauties on the property and if they’re not filled up with celebs they make a great choice if you want more room to roam. In these villas there’s even a special spa menu just for the Villas, or you can find bliss inside the spa itself where the Ala Lani Signature Body Experience is idyllic.
For my last night in Maui I invite a couple I met on the plane to join me for dinner at Nick’s Fishmarket. When I last saw Beverly and Quentin they were stressed about our flight to Maui being delayed but now their smiles reach their eyes as they tell me why the Kea Lani holds such a special place in their heart. They’ve been staying at the resort twice a year since it opened in 1991 and recently renewed their wedding vows here. For them the Kea Lani is truly a home away from home.
I wake up the next morning thinking about our conversation and about what makes a place special. As I spend the morning walking Wailea’s winding path along the beach I realize Maui is much more than just beautiful beaches, impressive hotels and immaculate golf courses; it’s the spirit of Maui’s people and their genuine desire to share their piece of paradise that make this island a rare retreat.
I leave the island without saying goodbye, instead I say “A hui hoa,” or “until we meet again”, because I know the feeling I found in Maui is too intoxicating to ignore and I, too, will be back.
