There are all kinds of TRAVEL THERAPY but for my father his favorite is to travel to Phoenix for the yearly NASCAR event. This is the third year we’ve gone together and what he loves most is being able to hang out in the pit area before the race and see all the drivers, like Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and one of his favorites, Kasey Kahne, in their element. This year we found…

the same excitement at Phoenix International Raceway as the track geared up for NASCAR. At Phoenix NASCAR, sold out crowds and dedicated fans filled the stands all weekend especially with such a tight race for the Chase ( NASCARS gold metal event) the anticipation was at an all time high going into Sunday’s final event. So far Kyle Busch  has dominated winning both the Truck and Busch races, we’ll see what he can do this aftenoon. If you get hooked here at thePhoenix NASCAR races, Phoenix even has a top-rated RACING SCHOOL called “Bondurant” where you can sign up for and see how well you’ll do behind the wheel!

 MEDIA AT NASCAR

Since we have media passes we can just about go anywhere but that also means we don’t really have actual seats. My dad’s favorite thing to do is hang out in the pit area before the race and then go down onto to the track when the cars are lining up for the start and then for the actual race stand down on one of the corners where you get an amazing view of the race. It takes stamina and dedicated to spend eight hours on your feet like this but he doesn’t care. This is his thing, something he looks forward to every year. I don’t think he’d sit down even if we did have seats this Phoenix NASCAR event is one of his favorites.

 WRITING ABOUT NASCAR

I always end up writing several articles about the race with my dad’s my “co-writer” because he knows so much about the event and always points me in the right direction. This year I’m researching and writing several pieces about the whole concept that NASCAR is starting to cater more to a wine and cheese crowd because the fan base of NASCAR is changing to where you’re seeing more women (almost 50%) and more people who’d rather sip some wine then slurp some beer.

NASCAR says PIR is one of the tracks leading the pack by offering more wine and fine foods in the luxury suites and especially in the new exclusive Octane lounge where you can even find sushi! Cheers to that!

 WINE AND NASCAR

I found out that racer Jeff Gordon has his own wine label and former racer and legendary team owner Richard Childress has his own winery. Another former racer and current team owner Randy Lynch and his wife are the first to own a winery, Bennett Lane, that also owns a NASCAR team and the list goes on. We’ve had a chance to taste some of the Bennett Lane wine and I’m not sure what I was expecting but it was great!  No grimy, gritty wine here. The Cabernet was smooth as silk.

  NASCAR IN PHOENIX

Now it’s off to the final day of racing this year of NASCAR in Phoenix. The weather has been perfect all weekend, even a little hot at times, but I’m thankful we’re not stuck in some frozen tundra where we’d surely be popsicles by now. To reward myself for three days at the track next week I check out a fantastic spa in Scottsdale before getting on another plane for TRAVEL THERAPY. Stay tuned for that!
