Tortola-Bye Bye BVI

It’s always hard to say goodbye to something or someplace you love so much!!!

I was heading back to Tortola on my final day of sailing. Tortola would be my seventh island in seven days. We did it! ( see last six posts) On our way back to the marina we caught up with several dozen sailboats racing in a regatta. When we fell in behind the leader I moved to the front of the catamaran and held on tight. It was exhilarating being soaked by the spray from the waves and my laughter was mixed with tears because I knew my trip was almost over but I had one more stop to make…

Once back at the Moorings home base it didn’t take long to pack up and check out of the boat. I felt a familiar tug at my heart as the taxi whisked me away to my final resort, but I never looked back. My adventure wasn’t over yet. For my last night I headed to the Long Bay Beach Resort on the other side of the island. At this property, you can choose between junior suites, sprinkled across the hillside, or rustic beachfront cabins. I decided to stay close to the water and picked a cabin. After a final massage I spent the rest of the day exploring and trying to mentally prepare for my trip back home.

As I watched my final BVI sunset from my balcony, sailboats kept racing by, almost as if they were calling out for me to return to the sea. That’s when I realized the true beauty of the BVI doesn’t just come from the glamorous resorts and top rated spas. The real magic is how this place makes you feel. There’s a sense of quiet here, a solitude that soothes your soul and makes you yearn for things you didn’t even know you wished for. The next day flying away from the island I only looked out the window once to take the picture used here. It was time to say goodbye, at least for now.

*** check out the last six posts for the other six islands I explored in the BVI and for a “killer” drink recipe!

PLUS…Stay tuned!! Coming up on Thursday…back to Mexico!!! This time to check out a  new luxe resort in a town I’ve never visited before… Zihuatanejo.

  1. Well, first I must say just looking at the pictures is Therapy for me, although it makes me miss the Caribbean which I love.

Thank you for your wonderful posts about the individual islands of the BVI. I have thought about getting a few friends and doing just this sort of trip (maybe not 7 in 7).
