Some of the best snorkeling I’ve ever found is in the British Virgin Islands! The water is so incredibly clear you barely even need to get off the boat to see dozens of varieties of tropical fish and coral that covers ever color of the rainbow. In my journey to sail seven islands in seven days ( see last seven posts) I discovered some of the best snorkeling spots in this part of the Caribbean. Here’s the list. Enjoy! Continue reading

Tortola-Bye Bye BVI

It’s always hard to say goodbye to something or someplace you love so much!!!

I was heading back to Tortola on my final day of sailing. Tortola would be my seventh island in seven days. We did it! ( see last six posts) On our way back to the marina we caught up with several dozen sailboats racing in a regatta. When we fell in behind the leader I moved to the front of the catamaran and held on tight. It was exhilarating being soaked by the spray from the waves and my laughter was mixed with tears because I knew my trip was almost over but I had one more stop to make… Continue reading

Little Yost Van Dyke-BVI

After the Captain stocked up on some ice and we left Anegada stop six on my journey to see seven islands in seven days was going to be the party child of the BVI, Jost Van Dyke. This is where you’ll find lively beach bars like Foxy’s and the famous Soggy Dollar Bar, where you have to anchor offshore and swim to the bar holding your money overhead ( hence the “soggy dollar” name). Part of the tradition involves… Continue reading

After two days of pure pampering on Virgin Gorda I was eager to reconnect with the sea on my TRAVELY THERAPY quest to see seven islands in seven days so we set sail north, outside the protective Sir Frances Drake Channel, into the open ocean. Our destination, Anegada, an island only the most talented sailor dare take on. Here’s why… Continue reading

My next stop on my TRAVEL THERAPY sailing tour was a quick forty-five minute sail to northern Virgin Gorda where you can find the award-winning Biras Creek Resort. This unique resort, with only 31 cozy cottages and dirt roads, sprawls over 140 acres so to get around you’re given bicycles. One of my first discoveries was…. Continue reading

As my TRAVEL THERAPY journey continues to explore seven Caribbean islands in seven days I felt like Christopher Columbus as I sailed away from Cooper Island and headed for Virgin Gorda. Okay, I’m sure most of you on Thanksgiving are snuggled up next to a fireplace sipping wine or hot cider, but in the Caribbean they do things with a bit of a twist, especially if you’re on Cooper Island! Continue reading

Treasure Island

A pirate’s life for me! That’s how I felt sailing up to the legendary Norman Island , my first overnight stop on my quest to sail seven islands in seven day in the British Virgin Islands (see last post). I had heard about this island years ago and wanted to see why famed author, Robert Louis Stevenson called this tiny speck of an island his inspiration for “Treasure Island.” BVI Locals still insist there’s a fortune buried somewhere. After anchoring about a quarter mile out I took our dinghy over to the beach and followed a rugged but scenic hiking trial all around the top of the tiny island. This is what I found… Continue reading

Of all the places I’ve traveled to in the world one of my favorite TRAVEL THERAPY trips is to charter your own private sailboat and explore the British Virgin Islands. Don’t worry you don’t actually have to know how to sail, that’s what the captains are for, and if you want, you can even hire a cook, but no matter how you set this trip up be prepared for the experience of a lifetime! Here’s why… Continue reading
